Tuesday, February 28, 2017

“You CAN Go Home Again” is the title of Robert Nelson’s presentation at the next Baxter County Historical & Genealogical Society’s monthly meeting, to be held on Tuesday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Knox Room at the Donald W. Reynolds Library, 100 Library Hill, Mountain Home. As a presenter in the Historical Society’s “Living History” series, Robert Nelson is a fourth generation native of the Mountain Home area. He was born and raised in Mountain Home, graduating from MHHS in the class of 1960. After graduating from Arkansas Tech with a BA in music education, he began teaching at Searcy Junior High School as band director. After three years in Searcy, he applied for the open band director’s job in Mountain Home and was hired, beginning with the 1967-68 school year. He retired from teaching in 2002, having spent thirty-five years as high school band director. Following his retirement, he served on the board of the Mountain Home Education Foundation, the Mountain Home School Board, and is still an active member of the Baxter County Retired Teachers Association and the Bomber Alumni House board.
